Reuters: Shipping freight rates for transporting containers from ports in Asia to Northern Europe rose 0.6% to $ 1.084 per 20-foot container (TEU) in the week ended on Friday, a source with access to data from the Shanghai Containerised Freight Index told Reuters.
In the week to Friday, container freight rates rose by 5.2% to ports in the Mediterranean, fell by 0.1% to ports on the US west coast and was unchanged on routes to ports on the US east coast.
Maersk Line, the global market leader with nearly 600 container vessels and part of oil and shipping group A.P. Moller-Maersk, has said it will attempt to hike rates on routes from Asia to Northern Europe by $ 550 per TEU with effect from May 1, a 44% increase if successful.
