Bangladesh’s finance minister, Abul Maal Abdul Muhith
The finance minister was guest of honour of the event and lit the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries, including provincial Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim in India’s eastern West Bengal state.
“The major problem is connectivity and that is the reason the BCIM – Bangladesh, China, India and Myanmar – is going to form the economic corridor, is going to have an agreement for economic corridor. If we can make this economic corridor in the name of BCIM then connectivity will be there,” said Muhith.
Almost 600 participants are taking part in the trade fair, which is organised by Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BNCCI).
Countries like Vietnam, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Thailand, China, Mayanmar, Ghana and Turkey are participating in the week-long fair that will conclude on 4 January 2015.
This year Myanmar marks its first entry to exhibit its products in any fair of eastern India.
In a bid to boost business, the minister invited the industrialists said Bangladesh was a good place for investment.
“We have come here not to attend this trade fair but to give a message to you that both the countries together can work very closely for the economic development of both the countries,” added Muhith.
Later, Hakim released the guidebook of Trade Fair.
The different departments of government of West Bengal especially in the areas of industry and infrastructure will also showcase in the pavilion.
This Industrial India Trade Fair, being the largest one-of-its-kind in eastern and north-eastern India, projects the industrial progress of the region and other states encompassing various sectors.
