Bangladesh has expressed its interest to use services of Sri Lanka’s new Hambantota Sea Port.

Bangladesh’s nod came as a result of Sri Lanka’s invitation to use the services of its newest port in Hambantota, according to media reports from Dhaka.

Bangladesh Finance Minister A.M.A. Muhith has been quoted as saying on 8 March: “Let’s explore the benefit since Hambantota Port users wouldn’t need to go inside Colombo. That will help save time.”

The fourth Sri Lanka-Bangladesh Joint Economic Commission (JEC) sessions in Dhaka, Bangladesh successfully concluded on 8 March.

The SL-Bangladesh JEC sessions, revived after almost two decades, resulted in effective renewal of bilateral trade cooperation, according to Minister Rishad Bathiudeen, who led Sri Lanka’s national delegation to Dhaka.
