Boeing has won U.S. government safety certification for its 747-8 passenger jet, allowing the company to deliver it to customers.
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval precedes a similar signoff from European authorities that was expected, Boeing said.
FAA approval affirms that the jumbo jet meets all safety and regulatory requirements.
Boeing has received 60 orders for the 747-8 and plans to deliver the first plane early next year to an undisclosed buyer. Lufthansa is the launch customer for airlines.
The FAA certified the freighter version of the jetliner in August and has recorded 70 orders for that plane.
