Book launch of ‘A Broken Compass’ by Duncan Jayawardena: Unique contribution to aviation

Untitled-1A unique book aimed at improving the standards of flying training in Sri Lanka, titled ‘A Broken Compass’ will be launched on 14 July at the Civil Aviation Authority auditorium at Hunupitiya Road Colombo 2 at 10 a.m. The author of this book, Duncan Jayawardena, is an experienced aviator who has served the aviation community in Sri Lanka in various capacities for a long period of 47 years, including being an Air Traffic Control Instructor and a Safety Manager for the National Carrier. 

He leaves no stone unturned to address the deficiencies in the system and gives invaluable tips to students, instructors and administrators of flying training organisations on easy and effective ways of enhancing overall standards in ab-initio flying training. Duncan has covered almost all aspects in flying training in ‘A broken Compass’ and also advises potential students of points to ponder when choosing a good flying training school.

H.M.C. Nimalsiri, present Director General of Civil Aviation and Chief Executive Officer of the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka has written the foreword of this book and he will grace this occasion as the Chief Guest. Veteran pilots Captain Gihan Fernando (Captain GAF), Captain C.T. (Chandra) Goonawardena (SLAF Group Captain (Rtd)), Air Chief Marshall (Rtd) Roshan Goonathilaka, former Commander of SLAF and Romesh Fernando Executive Director of Skyline Flying and Engineering Training Academy, have  also contributed to the book .
