Ceylon Chambers’‘Young Members Forum’ visits Colombo Port

The Young Members’ Forum of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce recently organized a visit to the Colombo Port, which was taken part by nearly 40 of its members. During the visit, the YMF members got a firsthand learning experience of the operations of the Colombo Port and also were able to view the Colombo South Harbour Expansion work. Officials of the Colombo Port, South Asia Gateway Terminal, Colombo International Container Terminal and Jaya Container Terminal explained the operations of Sri Lanka’s main commercial port and its future development plans to the participants. The visiting group was highly satisfied with the visit and the knowledge they gained during the tour and it was revealed by some members that this was the first such visit by them to the Colombo Port or for that matter any other international port. “This is a part of the YMF’s plan to help young men and women in this country, gain an in-depth understanding of the key economic installations of the country”, said Mrs. Gillian Nugara, President of the YMF. “We will continue to organize similar events in the future, which will help enhance the knowledge of our young members” added Nugara. The tour was organized by the YMF Innovation Subcommittee and was headed by Mrs. Manori Dissanayake, head of the subcommittee. Young Members Forum, an initiative of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce was formed to help nature the younger generation of the country to become future leaders. It has over 200 members as of now, and most of them are already working in the corporate sector.
