CILT delegation attends International Convention in Dubai

The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) held its International Convention in Dubai from 13 to 15 September at Jumeira Creek hotel in the presence of over 250 foreign delegates from 33 of its member countries. 

This year’s theme of the convention was ‘Stronger Together: Global Strategies for Success in Logistics and Transport’. CILT conducts its annual convention in a member country in rotation every year. Sri Lanka hosted the Convention in June 2013 after it gained the Territorial Status. The CILTSL delegation numbering eleven comprised of its office bearers and senior members led by its Chairman Niral Kadawatharatchie attended the Convention 2015 in Dubai.

The international convention started with the Women in Logistics and Transport (WiLAT) forum in parallel with Young Professionals Forum (YPF) in session. The WiLAT Convention was represented by Chairperson WiLAT Gayani de Alwis, Regional Coordinator South Asia, Namalie Siyambalapitiya, Vice Chairperson Niroza Gazzali and ExCo member Amra Zareer. Three of the WiLAT Sri Lanka initiatives were adopted by global WiLAT Forum for roll out. YPF was represented by YPF South Asia Coordinator Nishantha Fernando.

Dr. Dorothy Chan, Immediate Past International President and Global Advisor for WiLAT was awarded with the Honorary Fellowship for her yeoman service to CILT at the International Management Council (IMC) meeting. IMC is the prestigious assembly held during the convention which is attended by many International members and at this meeting the IMC recognises and felicitate individuals who contribute to the Institute in formulating its strategies and maintaining the decorum of the institute.  At the last year’s international convention in Melacca International Vice President Saliya Senanayaka was awarded with the Pegasus award. 

The convention in Dubai was a success new strategies being formulated for the institution especially in the fields of education services and harmonised guidelines for membership. The next International Convention will be held in Montreal Canada in September 2016.
