CILT Sri Lanka earns Territory status

The Council of Trustees of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), United Kingdom last week announced the upgrade of the status of CILT Sri Lanka from a Branch to a Territory recently.

In doing so, the Council of Trustees recognised the high standards of performance, governance, and membership development evidenced in CILT Sri Lanka over the past several years.

The award, made at the International Convention and Annual General Meeting held in Birmingham, UK last month was presented by the Princess Royal and Patroness of CILT, UK Princess Anne to CILT Sri Lanka Chairman Romesh David on behalf of CILT Sri Lanka. In her address to the convention, Princess Anne remarked that she was especially pleased to assist in recognising those who had gone the extra mile and added extra value to the Institute and noted the important new status of Sri Lanka as a territorial organisation.

“The award of territory status to Sri Lanka reflects the hard work and strength of organisation the local CILT has delivered over a number of years. To be awarded this a year ahead of the International Convention to be held in Sri Lanka in 2013 will enable the transfer of accountabilities to the local team, and for the International Convention to be led by a country that fully meets the aspirations of growth and development of our organisation,” said CILT International President Prof. Alan Waller.

The CILT International Convention and AGM 2013 will be hosted in Colombo from 2 to 7 June 2013.  “This is a much anticipated event by all quarters of the industry and will place Sri Lanka firmly on the map of CILT member nations,” said David at the recently held Annual General Meeting of CILT Sri Lanka.

CILT is a uniquely established global professional body. The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport is the leading professional body associated with logistics and transport. With over 33,000 members in over 30 countries worldwide, CILT holds unparalleled professional international recognition.

Established in 1919 and receiving its Royal Charter in 1926, the Institute has an exciting history, but is always adapting to stay consistent with current logistics and transport issues. The Institute’s Patroness is Princess Anne. The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Sri Lanka was established in 1985 by an Act of Parliament. Presently CILT Sri Lanka has almost 1,000 members.
