Marking a special day for the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Sri Lanka (CILT—SL) recently, the institute held its annual general meeting at the Auditorium of the National Chamber of Commerce. CILT–SL is a territorial organisation of the CILT–International, the largest professional institute in the world, for professionals and aspiring professionals in the field of logistics and transport. Bolstered by a very enthusiastic group of members, CILT-SL recently transitioned from a CILT—International branch to a territory, signifying the progression of the local organisation.

The AGM saw a continuation of the last year’s committee as John Keells Transportation Group Romesh David was re-elected as Chairman, Niral Kadawatharatchie, Namalie Siyambalapitiya and Gayani De Alwis re-elected as Vice Chairpersons while Channaka De Alwis and Upali Gunawardena were retained as Secretary and Treasurer respectively.

David reviewed the activities of CILT—SL over the past year, wherein he commented on the unprecedented elevation of CILT—SL to territorial status, the massive strides made in engaging the youth and women in the industry through its YPF (Young Professionals’ Forum) and WILAT (Women in Logistics and Transport) initiatives.

The year 2013/14, marks a very important year for the CILT—SL, as it will be hosting the CILT International Convention in Colombo, from 2 to 7 June. This momentous event in the global institute’s calendar will put Sri Lanka under the spotlight as a multitude of foreign delegates from CILT branches and territories across the globe make the journey to Colombo to be part of this event.

CILT—SL expects to put up an outstanding show by providing unrivalled hospitality, staying true to our traditions while creating awareness on what has been achieved and the opportunities available in the transport and logistics industry in Sri Lanka. The AGM was followed up by a rooftop cocktail at the National Chamber of Commerce, wrapping up a wonderful evening.
