CINEC recently launched its first ever ‘CINEC Academic Journal’ at an event held in its Klaus E. Oldendorll Auditorium, coinciding with this year as it celebrates its 25th anniversary and adding another milestone in its journey of spreading and sharing knowledge amongst the Sri Lankan community.

The gala event held on 11 August was attended by industry delegates, academics, management, staffs and students of Colombo International Nautical and Engineering College (CINEC). University of Colombo Professor in Business Economics Prof. H.D. Karunaratne was the Chief Guest to mark this event whilst the welcome speech was delivered by CINEC Quality Management and Administration Senior Director Ranjana Punchihewa.

Prof. Karunaratne was delighted to witness CINEC as a private institution taking the initiative on this area and reviewed the CINEC Academic Journal Volume 1 Number 1 to the audience while commenting on strengths and weaknesses and rated overall that the publication has very useful, emerging content relevant to today’s contemporary issues in Sri Lanka.

“The launch of our academic journal marks another incredible achievement of CINEC. This goes well beyond to exhibit our passion and commitment towards uplifting Sri Lanka as a knowledge economy giving the opportunity for everyone to create, debate and share their thoughts and ideas,” said CINEC President and Ceyline Group Managing Director Capt. Ajith Peiris.

Prof. Karunaratne said, “Today Sri Lanka publishes a range of academic journals in various disciplines compared to the early years when only journals from other countries were available. And almost all state universities and associations have their own journals published. The latest addition to the list is the CINEC Academic Journal which I believe will grow into a strong publication in years to come.”

He emphasised that the future of academic journals is over the internet where youth spend most of their time in today’s fast-paced techie environment and that Sri Lankan publishers have to go beyond their traditional library model to spread and keep up their readership and engagement both locally and internationally.

Today, journals play an important role as a key source for written work, research projects and dissertations that are part and partial of academic scenario. CINEC established in 1990 is Sri Lanka’s largest higher education and training facility. Over 19,000 students follow CINEC courses annually and new recruits follow over 185 educational and training programs. The campus is accredited by many international quality management systems and further it continues to uplift standards by investing heavily on competitive infrastructure facilities, equipment and human resources to deliver and cater to the increasing number of students.
