Ceylon Association of Ships’ Agents (CASA) in association with Colombo International Nautical and Engineering College (CINEC) embarked on a scholarship program for CASA membership in order to enhance the professionalism in the shipping industry.

The rising demand for professionals in many industries especially in the Logistics Industry is much evident. However, the capacity building that is required with respect to the human resource is not an easy task and the process can never produce instant results either. Therefore a systematic training and development program is very vital and timely if not already late. CINEC Maritime Campus is on the right track to produce human capacity in the field of Maritime, Logistics, Freight Forwarding, and Transport.

There will be many opportunities existing in local firms such as shipping line offices, ports and governments, transport and logistics firms, exporting, importing, trading and manufacturing firms, educational institutes, oil and gas industry, R & D or consultancy firms. This is an advantage from the community perspective for those who wish to follow professional courses.

On the other hand there are other benefits of professional education to the country as a whole such as improving the operational efficiency, reducing errors and costs, enhancing the business potential, effective decision making by staff through widening the domain knowledge, increasing the impact of ‘Experience curve advantage’, creating a competitive advantage to the firm etc.  CINEC is one of the largest private higher education organisations in Sri Lanka fully exemplified by a student base of over 19,000 students that annually follows a range of over 185 educational and training programmes.

CINEC is the training and education partner of CASA and accredited training institute in Sri Lanka for Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT). CINEC is approved by the Director General of Merchant Shipping to conduct Freight Forwarding course for the purpose of applying for annual licenses.

CASA in collaboration with CINEC has trained more than 600 industry personals under ‘CASA Basic Ship Agency Functions’ course so far. The members of CASA who have nominated most number of their employees for this training course was selected to award these scholarships.
