CINEC moves into aviation

Colombo International Nautical and Engineering College, which is better known as CINEC, is Sri Lanka’s largest non-governmental educational institute. It is also the largest maritime education training facility and is a leading maritime training institution in South Asia. CINEC has 24 years of rich training experience having diversified into areas such as engineering, management, IT and computing, vocational training, safety and survival and many other courses. Captain Ajith Peiris, the President and the Managing Director of CINEC, has announced that they have decided to move into the field of aviation by offering a wide range of aeronautical training programs ranging from professional aircraft maintenance and aeronautical engineering to full flight training courses and technician courses. He also said that CINEC is making plans to offer aeronautical engineering degree programs and will take up full flight training which will include top class PPL and CPL courses. He went on to say that CINEC is already making arrangements with the Sri Lankan government to secure hangar space in Mattala and it appreciated the support and the guidance received from the government. He further stressed that CINEC is ready to supply well-trained and qualified personnel to facilitate the supply of human capital to uphold the vision of the Government in making Sri Lanka a commercial hub, which has huge benefits for the country. With Sri Lanka fast tracking into aviation related infrastructure, the potential demand for professionals in related fields would be on the rise. The vision of the Government in turning Sri Lanka into both maritime and aviation hubs, experts/expertise would have to be imported from foreign countries if Sri Lanka is not adequately geared in terms of well trained and qualified human capital. In keeping with the traditions that CINEC has created where it always envisages the potential demand and gears the young generations for lucrative careers by taking a proactive approach. CINEC has already received approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) to commence their Aircraft Maintenance License (AML) training program from 2014 and is in the process of arranging aeronautical degree programs with several foreign universities of high repute. CINEC will also be offering professional/licensed flight training courses such as Private Pilot License (PPL), Commercial Pilot License (CPL) and Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) in the near future. The Aircraft Maintenance License (AML) training program will be offered through CINEC’s aviation technical training school for students who wish to embark on a professional career with an airline by qualifying as a fully licensed type-rated Commercial Aircraft Maintenance Engineer and which is scheduled to commence in March 2014. Similarly, academic/degree level training courses such as BEng/MEng in Aeronautical Engineering will be offered through CINEC’s affiliation with foreign universities, for students who wish to embark on a professional career typically with an aerospace or aero-engine company, primarily concerned with the design, manufacture and development of technology relating to aircraft. The qualifications offered by CINEC will lead right up to becoming a Chartered Engineer (CEng). The degree programs are scheduled to start later this year. The rapid increase of air traffic in the region will definitely boost job opportunities to those who are passionate towards the field of aviation. Aeronautical engineers, technicians and pilots are professionals who are in high demand and receive very high financial packages and perks.
