Colombo Dockyard delivers repaired container carrier Leo Mono ahead of schedule

SeaChange Maritime (S) Pte Ltd., Singapore placed confidence in Colombo Dockyard with its second vessel for repairs to MV. Leo Mono (GRT: 24,724, LOA: 199.99 M, Beam: 30.50 M) called in for her first special survey repairs during February 2014. Colombo Dockyard was the best option for the owners/managers given the strategic location placing the vessel on the trading route, the vessel discharged her containers in the Port of Colombo and shifted directly into drydocks for her lay-up repairs. Colombo had performed good work on MV. Imara during August 2013 successfully, resulting in owners placing the second vessel for repairs without any hesitation. Colombo’s customer centric approach was evident, where all production departments rallied round the project manager to redeliver the vessel ahead of schedule. During this drydocking call the work package covered repairs in all sectors; tail shaft surveyor, propeller silicone painting, two main engine units overhauled, these were the main items on the critical path. The 11 hatch cover repairs and blast painting of seven of them. In addition, the company also undertook internal steel repairs approximately three tanks, blasting and painting of two tanks of approximately 400sqms in scattered locations, 18 seawater pipes renewed with hot dip galvanising, overhauling of seven electrical motors and routine dry dock work related repairs such as sea valves, boilers, hull painting, anchor chain work The project team was headed by Ship Manager Priyanka Cooray – who was well supported by all production departments, especially Asiri Wijayagunathilaka - Engine Dept., Gayan Senadheera - Steel Dept. and K. Kalubowila from the Hull Treatment Dept. The owner’s interests were looked after by Damir Glavan – Technical Director and Vinko Jurkovic, Technical Superintendent during this drydocking call. The owners were satisfied with the facilities at their disposal coupled with the quality workmanship, professional approach to meet the owners requirements were highly appreciated. The container carrier was accommodated in the 125,000 DWT drydock for her repair requirements and sailed out after. During this call vessel’s owners decided to change her name and she sailed out as MV. Baleen. The repairs were carried out meeting the NKK Class society requirements. McLarens Shipping Ltd., handled the local husbanding work smoothly.
