Colombo Port’s Jaya Container Terminal managed by Sri Lanka Ports Authority recently achieved a unique feat of handling two large ships which combined exceeded the terminal’s length of 660 metres.

This was when JCT served two ships together. One was MSC Luciana and the other was Hapag Lloyd’s Ningbo Express.

“Though the designed capacity is 660 metres we somehow managed to accommodate both ships which combined amounted to 685 metres,” said SLPA Director Operations Jayantha Perera.

JCT 3 served MSC Luciana, length of which was 363.57 metres. The ship was with 11,660 TEUs with JCT handling 2,867 TEUs. Hapag-Lloyd’s Ningbo Express spanning 320.58 metres came with 7,506 TEUs and JCT handling 2,150 TEUs.
