DHL establishes new ocean freight links to the Middle East

Further expansion of the Less Than Container Load network from Bremen to five Arabic Countries

DHL Global Forwarding, the air and sea freight specialist within the Deutsche Post DHL Group, has established five new direct ocean freight links to the Middle East.

By shipping from Bremen to Doha and Damman and from Bremen to Quaboos, Bahrain and Kuwait, the delivery period of LCL (Less Than Container Load) transports is shortened from 29 to 26 and from 28 to 25 days respectively. This means exports can now be delivered to the Arabian Peninsula even faster. Up until now, the cargo was shipped to Dubai where it was loaded onto trucks for delivery to the various destinations.

 “We are registering increased demand from our customers for transports to these fastgrowing regions. They are looking for alternatives to air and ground transports, but they rarely have complete shiploads. Our new direct LCL transports, servicing further economic hubs in the Middle East, bridge this gap,” says Friedhelm Uhlhorn, Vice President Ocean Freight Germany.

SMEs from the consumer and investment goods industry as well as the mechanical engineering and chemical sectors are set to benefit most strongly from the LCL services and the flexible delivery options. With this move DHL is adding further important destinations in this region to its already existing direct freight link LCL network from Bremen to Dubai, Jeddah and Jordan.

DHL Global Forwarding is constantly expanding its LCL network, which currently comprises 45,000 international line operations and more than 2,000,000 cubic metres of consolidated partial loads. In the function of a “Non Vessel Operating Common Carrier” (NVOCC) – that is a logistics company operating as an ocean carrier without possessing its own fleet – DHL provides the world’s largest transport network for ocean freight LCL with fixed departure and delivery time-tables. As a result, customers are guaranteed full and uninterrupted supply chain management, covering pickup services at source, consolidation and deconsolidation, delivery to the destination, monitoring as well as customs procedures.
