DP World, China in talks on ‘One belt, One Road’ initiative

Dubai-based global marine terminal operator DP World is in negotiations with the Chinese government to develop further cooperation in order to fulfil the requirements of the ‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative, said a senior official.

The development strategy and framework, proposed by the Chinese government, focuses on connectivity and cooperation among countries primarily between the China and the rest of Eurasia, which consists of two main components, the land-based ‘Silk Road Economic Belt’ (SREB) and ocean going ‘Maritime Silk Road’ (MSR), Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman of DP World and Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, was quoted as saying in a Wam report.

He further added that China is building six new routes that will connect it to the rest of the world, highlighting the importance to cooperate with China and to develop the company’s ports on the Silk Road.

Bin Sulayem said most of our ports and land and sea stations (77 ports and stations worldwide) are located on the routes that China is building as part of this initiative.

He further noted that DP World will be able to provide the best services to the Chinese trade industry which will travel through its new network of maritime and land routes.
