Emirates receives Global Commerce Excellence Award from Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka has recognised Emirates with a ‘Global Commerce Excellence Award’ for the airline’s support to the country’s economy during three decades of hardship.

The award, which is endorsed by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, was presented by the Shippers’ Academy Colombo in partnership with the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, the Board of lnvestment of Sri Lanka and Airport Aviation Services Sri Lanka.

It recognised overseas partners who supported the national economy and economic activity during the three decades of hardship the country went through due to unrest.

The award presented to Emirates at a gala ceremony attended by the Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, the Governor of the Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabraal and senior Government officials, is in the ‘Investments/Services’ category.

“Emirates launched flights to Colombo in April 1986 and has supported Sri Lanka with a vital link to the airline’s ever expanding global network for more than 25 years, with passenger and cargo services,” said Chandana de Silva, Emirates Area Manager for Sri Lanka and Maldives. “Today, we operate 28 flights a week to Colombo, connecting Sri Lanka with 127 destinations in 73 countries, and we are happy to receive this award as an expression of appreciation.”

Emirates was represented at the awards ceremony by de Silva and Damian Jayasuriya, the airline’s Cargo Manager for Sri Lanka and Maldives.

The winner of more than 500 top international awards including Airline of the Year 2012 from CAPA, Emirates serves Colombo with 21 flights a week from Colombo to Dubai and daily flights to Singapore, offering First, Business and Economy Class travel.
