With sustainable business practices in mind a significant initiative towards adopting eco-friendly business mechanisms was recently spearheaded by Mountain Hawk Express (MHE) – Licensee of Federal Express Corporation in Sri Lanka. After months of due diligence and research, MHE has made a move that is today alien to many but will certainly pave the way in harnessing renewable energy in the future.
According to MHE CEO Sanjeeva Abeygoonewardena, conducting business in a more futuristic yet sustainable manner is an integral aspect of the organisation’s business strategy and moving into renewable energy driven vehicles was part of MHE’s green initiatives. Therefore, after almost a year of meticulous research and planning the first ever FedEx branded electric delivery van can now been seen making package deliveries and pickups throughout the streets of Colombo city.
Being a responsible corporate citizen, the institution takes pride in establishing this special project where they aim to educate the general public about eco-friendly transportation technologies that are available. These options are made available through global technological advancements, and will encourage customers to convert to the utilisation of eco-friendly energy sources.
Moreover, FedEx has also taken worldwide initiative in offsetting carbon emissions. 364 low emission hybrid vehicles, 118 Zero emission electric vehicles and zero emission electric tricycles have been introduced to the FedEx fleet by the end of 2012.
