FedEx Express, a leading express transportation company, has announced the launch of its new 48,000 sq ft facility at the Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) in Dubai.

The new unit offers customers in the free zone greater connectivity to FedEx global network and more convenience for their shipping requirements. The announcement comes during the company’s ongoing sponsorship as the official courier of the Dubai Airshow 2011.

Established in 1985, Jafza’s purpose as a facilitator of investment into Dubai has generated increasing traction over the years.

The free zone accounts for 20 per cent of all Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows into the UAE. “FedEx Express recognises the strategic importance of Jafza and its long- term business opportunities,” remarked David Ross, Senior Vice President, Operations, FedEx Express, MEA and Indian subcontinent.

“Given Jafza’s growth potential, FedEx Express is in an excellent position to provide customers with the most flexible and reliable transportation solutions to match their complex shipping needs,” he added.  At the new Jafza facility, the customers can submit their shipping documents in an automated and paper-less shipping experience using FedEx electronic trade documents (ETD).

They can ship their packages and freight internationally using a variety of FedEx International Priority services. Customers will also benefit from the UAE domestic service proposition, said the company in a statement.

A key highlight is the cold storage facility available for temperature-sensitive shipments, it added.
