The Institute of Export (UK) recently enrolled their very First Sri Lankan Candidate Indunil Janaka Fonseka to pursue the ‘Diploma in International Trade’ final course for the MIEX professional qualification. Fonseka who is currently employed in Oman has successfully completed the Advanced Certificate in International Trade (ACIT), and consequently qualified to pursue the Diploma in International Trade of the IOE. Fonseka visited Sri Lanka recently on vacation and he took the opportunity to enrol for this Diploma Course through the local partners of the IOE – The Institute of Shipping and Logistics, Colombo. The Diploma Course consists of four subject modules and he purchased the relevant Study Pack sent by the IOE-UK, with a view to undertaking self study back in Oman and to sit for the Examinations in June and December 2014. “Sri Lanka needs a thriving Exports Industry and has set a National Export Revenue Target of USD 5.0 billion to be achieved by 2015 and USD 20.0 billion by 2020. It is believed that our country’s exports have not developed to the expected levels over the years partly due to the lack of professional skills and qualifications in International Trade. International Trade is more than mere sales and logistics between countries, it is a complex process which involves many functions and specialised knowledge. The Institute’s professional qualifications are designed to supply well trained and qualified International Trade Managers to any country’s Commerce and Industry. The above targets can be achieved provided young people and Export/Trade sector executives acquire ‘industry specific’ skills and professional qualifications offered exclusively by the prestigious IOE-UK via The Institute of Shipping & Logistics (IOSL) in Sri Lanka,” Fonseka noted. The IOSL is currently enrolling candidates for the ‘Certificate Course in International Trade’ (CIT) for the June 2014 Examination. Very affordable course fees which are difficult to match have been offered by the IOE/UK, with a view to encouraging candidates from Sri Lanka. The IOSL also conducts the very popular six months training courses namely The ‘Foundation Diploma in Shipping & Logistics’ and the ‘Certificate in Logistics Services, Freight Forwarding, Multi Modal Transport & Shipping’. The latter is approved by the Director General of Merchant Shipping of the Ministry of Ports and Highways, to satisfy the statutory licensing requirements of Freight Forwarders. The Institute also undertakes customised In-House Training Programs in Shipping, Logistics and International Trade for corporate clients and can be contacted via Hot Line 0777 891767 and E-mail: [email protected].
