The import section of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce together with the Sri Lanka Customs and Sri Lanka Ports Authority is planning to hold a forum to discuss the latest decision of the Government to operate Customs 24X7. The forum, which is to be held at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute on 2 April, will help stakeholders understand the operational benefits and the processors involved in the 24x7 operating system. Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake, Director General of Customs Jagath P. Wijeweera and Sri Lanka Ports Authority Chairman Dr. Lakdas Panagoda are expected to speak at this forum. The Import Section of the Ceylon Chamber invites all stakeholders in the trade to attend this forum and to clear all impending issues pertaining to the 24x7 operation of the Customs. The participants will be given an opportunity raise questions during a panel discussion, which is expected to be attended by the senior officials of Sri Lanka Customs, Sri Lanka Ports Authority, banks and other relevant sector representatives. Commenting on this initiative, Import Section Chairman Dinesh De Silva stated: “The move to operate the Customs around the clock is seen as a pragmatic step taken by the government, to help ease and speed up the import and export documentation clearing process.” “Whilst supporting the Government’s commitment to ease the Customs clearance process during peak hours, trade should also make use of these facilities and maximise their cost savings.” The forum is designed for exporters, importers, freight forwarders, carriers, traders, logistics providers and container operators, etc. Those interested in participating are requested to contact the Secretariat, on 5588880 or 5588871 or 0777223651 or email to [email protected].
