A German delegation headed by Ian Kiru Karan State Minister (Senator) for Economic Affairs and Labour, City of Hamburg in Germany, visited the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) recently and had discussions with Dr. Priyath B. Wickrama, the Chairman of SLPA.

The discussions centred on extending assistance and support regarding working in closer coordination in port activities. The Senator expressed strong faith to bring more collaboration to port-related activities between Hamburg and Colombo.
Karan, born in 1939 in Point Pedro in Sri Lanka, currently holds British and German nationality. At present he bears memberships on the Boards of the Hamburg Port Authority, Hamburg Football Association and Society for Promotion of the Cardiac Centre of the University Hospital and is also the Chairman of the Board of the Society for the Promotion of the Hamburg School of Business Administration.
He is a highly active philanthropist in the field of arts, music, sports and youth projects in the city of Hamburg.
Following the discussions with Dr. Wickrama, the Chairman of SLPA, Karan also made an exclusive inspection visit at the rapidly-growing Colombo Port Expansion Project. The constructions of the breakwater of the CPEP are on schedule and expected to be completed by the end of this year. Following the terminal building thereafter, it will be operational by early 2013.
Preceding the visit at SLPA, both Senator Karan and German MP Klimke paid a courtesy call to President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Kandy.
