ICC SL extends membership to SLPA

The port sector of Sri Lanka is going to play a significant role for the national GDP growth by value adding to many industries and services. It is expected that the ongoing projects will help the country to be a significant maritime centre that will service South Asia as well as the region. This development will help Sri Lanka to integrate further with the region and with the rest of the world, supporting international trade through efficient logistical support services linking the global supply chain.

The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), known as the “World Business Organisation”, is the only representative body that speaks with authority on behalf of enterprises of all sectors in every part of the world. Founded in 1919, with over 120 member countries, ICC was granted consultative status at the highest level with the UN and its specialised agencies.

In view of the emerging economic activity in Sri Lanka, after 30 years of conflict, the ICC Sri Lanka (ICCSL), recently recognised the dynamic role played by the SLPA and its importance to the region. ICC being a major contributor to the maritime sector, through the International Maritime Bureau (IMB) extended its membership in Sri Lanka, to the Sri Lanka Ports Authority. It hopes to develop greater relationship in the coming years with SLPA and help the local organisation with necessary knowledge and support through its influential and dynamic business knowledge and to link the ICC privileged links with major inter governmental organisations, such as the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

ICC Sri Lanka CEO Gamini Peiris on behalf of the chairman and board members of ICC SL, recently visited and met SLPA Chairman Dr. Priyath Bandu Wickrama along with ICC SL board member and transport committee chairman Rohan Masakorala and transport committee member M. N. Prabath to welcome the SLPA as one of its prestigious members.

The ICC SL CEO commended Dr. Wickrama and his team for their commitment and extended their fullest corporation from ICC SL to help the mega organisation to achieve its goals. SLPA becomes one of the first maritime/logistic organisations in the public sector in Sri Lanka to be enrolled as a member of ICC Sri Lanka.
