The container conversion concept pioneered in Sri Lanka by McLarens Logistics takes the definition of recycling to higher level. Their idea is simple, it is to convert used marine containers to beautiful, functional, compact, and portable spaces to live and work in.

The picture shows a one of a kind Laboratory container conversion carried out by McLarens Logistics for their premier customer GAC Shipping Ltd to use in their Oil and Gas Support Service Business.

This conversion has special features such as steel panelling and special heat insulation, pressurised gas and water pipe lines, smoke detectors, fire alarm systems, fire doors, emergency eye wash and shower unit, electrical power cut off switches and emergency lighting and many other customised features needed for this cabins specific use.

This cabin is a highly sophisticated lab which is used to carryout testing of chemicals which are being used for the oil exploration project currently being carried out in Manner basin.     Being Pioneers in the inland container terminal industry in Sri Lanka, and with over 25years of experience in the marine container trade, McLarens Logistics has acquired superior technology and know how of container conversion. These conversions are derived by using computer aided designs, and converted using high quality material and vibrant colour schemes to suit each customer’s specific requirement.

One can hardly imagine the limitless possibilities of converting a container with customised doors, windows, insulation, interior panelling, carpeting, furniture, bathroom fittings, air conditioning etc.

Twenty feet and 40ft marine containers could be converted to site offices, accommodation units, bathrooms, store rooms, medical rooms, cafes, lunch rooms, bank outlets, vehicle workshops and to many other uses.

Any number of containers can be joined together by removing side panels to gain more floor space. Containers can also be used as dual or triple stacked units if there are space restrictions.

They provide additional roofing and staircases designed to improve the durability and functionality of these units. If properly maintained these container conversions will last for over 20 years, and can also be moved from one location to another.

The technical team at McLarens Logistics are ready to take up any challenge, and have completed conversions in record times to meet strict deadlines and diverse requirements.  These cabins have been shipped overseas, installed in the heart of Colombo as well as in remote locations in the country.

Their innovative and dedicated approach has seen McLarens Logistics create a market for container conversions among a wide range of clients such as construction companies, project developer’s, NGO’s, Government institutes, banks, restaurants, medical companies, shipping and logistics companies, horse riding schools, sports clubs, emission testing companies, event organisers, and individuals.  container conversions are becoming more widely used in Sri Lanka, as it is a viable alternative option to conventional constructions.
