Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers SL place education & training under spotlight

The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (UK) Sri Lanka branch recently held its AGM at the Auditorium of the Organisation of Professional Association Colombo, Sri Lanka. Mohan The newly elected Chairman Lalith Witanachchi in his speech mentioned the growth and development in the Sri Lanka branch having started with only seven members in 1987 and said that the branch unselfishly resolved to take the message to the local maritime industry with great emphasis on professional education. Since its inception, the ICS (SL) branch has come a long way and today the branch stands tall in the local shipping industry as well as the international arena, as one of the most active branches in the ICS network worldwide. The newly elected Chairman thanked the many volunteers from the membership who ensured the success of the institute, in promoting education and training. As well as the unstinted commitment of the lecturers which has always been a major contributory factor of the progress, in increasing the pass rates of students who sat for the Foundation Diploma and the qualifying examinations. Today, the ICS Sri Lanka Branch plays a major role in the local as well as the International Maritime Industry, having a membership of over 150 members including Fellow members. ICS (SL) Branch will be having their 21st Anniversary Awards Ceremony on 20 February 2015.
