Shippers’ Academy takes initiative to take industry professionals to ports
The Shippers’ Academy Colombo (SAC) recently took over 30 insurance underwriters from a number of leading insurance companies to visit the port of Colombo for them to get a first-hand understanding of port operations and the new developments at the port of Colombo.
Explaining the idea behind these visits, Shipper’s Academy Colombo CEO Rohan Masakorala said that he was of the view that it is critical to increase capacity, skills and knowledge of industry professionals as the country needs the extra personnel to drive the country forward during the next decade as a maritime nation. These young industry professionals on one hand can have good understanding of the real world work and how business is done.
He further said, “They will be good ambassadors to market the country’s infrastructure as they will be exposed to global events and personnel involved in the industry. The industry leaders have to take lead roles to market the country and give awareness to international players about the country and its maritime and logistics capabilities s hub in emerging Asia.”
