Ionia Management SA Greece managed MT. Theo T (Dwt 73,021) was placed in Colombo for drydocking and lay up repairs during October 2013. The owners/managers Ionia Management SA carried out a pre-vessel arrival inspection of the shipyard facilities and logistic assessment to understand the capabilities of the yard earlier this year. Gaining full confidence of the capacity and capabilities the owners decided on Colombo as Colombo Dockyard was the best option for the owners/managers, given the strategic location with minimal diversion from her last discharging port in India. The good track record of Colombo especially for speedy turnaround and quality workmanship, coupled with longstanding relationship with many reputed Greek ship owners over the past two decades, made the decision easy for the owners. Chris Marine SA, exclusive representative in Greece for Colombo Dockyard, Chris and Kimon Papatheodorou played an excellent coordination role and secured the project for Colombo. The tanker Theo T was accommodated in the 125,000 DWT drydock for her repair requirements; she taken directly into drydocks on arrival after gas free status was achieved. The work package to be carried out during this call consisted of routine drydocking repairs, hull blasting and painting, overhauling/repairs to FWD mooring winch, overhauling of main engine two units, repairs to cargo tank heating coils, cleaning of boiler (fire and water side) and main engine turbocharger overhauling. Cargo and main sea water pumps were overhauled, shaft was built up and dynamic balancing, impeller eye and other related repairs were carried out. The project was coordinated by Ship Manager Samitha Silva. Production teams have given all round support to achieve this delivery deadline improvement and project completion one-and-a-half days ahead of the quoted 12 days. To name a few of the project team members who were instrumental in this quick re-delivery: from Engine Department, D. Abeywickrema; Deck Department, V.R.P.P. Panagoda and R.M. Suleiman; Hull Treatment, K. Kalubowila; Electrical Dept., W.A Chandrawansa; and Invoicing Dept., Sameera W.G.A. Ranga. The repairs were carried out meeting the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) classification society requirements and requirements of owners/ship management representatives. The owners were very happy with the total outcome of the project, as Colombo exceeded customer expectations with re-delivery 36 hours ahead of the scheduled deadline. The team representing the owners/manager were George N. Karagiorgis – Technical Manager, Nicolas Otheitis – Superintendent Engineer and Kostas Therapiotis. The local agents GAC Shipping Ltd. handled the husbanding work during this call.
