ISMM organises CPD/CPE program for members on ship building

The Institute of Supply & Materials Management (ISMM), which leads the supply chain professionals in the country, organised another evening seminar (CPD/CPE session) for its members and public on 16 May 2012 at OPA Auditorium.



Guest Speaker Colombo Dockyards PLC Managing Director/CEO Mangala P. B. Yapa delivered the speech explaining the progress of Colombo Dockyard Ltd.

He stressed on the importance of developing the ship building industry in Sri Lanka considering the macro development plan implemented by the Government. Yapa indicated that it is not an industry that can be developed overnight due to various reasons.

The competition from the Asia Pacific Region countries for ship building is a threat to Sri Lanka mainly due to the non-availability of materials. He said it is very difficult to be competitive when they have to import materials.

He also showed the importance of human resource management at work place and said his priorities were to ensure that safety of the staff while working and ensure that they were happy and fit to work. He said it was important to see that employees were looked after well not only from the welfare side but also by appreciating the work performance in numerous ways.
