Japan Airlines has applied to the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism to revise its international cargo fuel surcharge for flights departing from Japan from 1 September 2013. Since 1 April 2009, JAL started adjusting its cargo fuel surcharge levels on a monthly basis by using the one-month average fuel price of Singapore kerosene of the month before last.
As the average fuel price of Singapore kerosene for the month of July in 2013 was US$ 121.17 per barrel, the benchmark fuel price used for calculation of the fuel surcharge level will be within the range of US$ 120.00 to US$ 124.99 per barrel.
The international cargo fuel surcharge will therefore be 122 yen per kilogram on long-haul international routes, 99 yen per kilogram on medium-haul international routes, and 78 yen on short-haul routes.
