‘K’ Line car carrier Mv. ‘Caribbean Highway’ RO/RO vessel calls at MRMRP

K’ Line car carrier with a load of domestic use vehicles from Japan called at the Port of Hambantota recently. The vessel M/V ‘Caribbean Highway’ discharged/loaded transshipment units of 202 units from Japan/India for domestic use and for Gulf Ports. The agents for the vessel M/V ‘Caribbean Highway’ ABC Shipping Limited Tressel Silva and the Asia Regional Damaged Prevention Team Senior Marine Superintendent Yasuyuki Namiki from ‘K’ Line Thailand inspected the discharging and Loading Operation at MRMRP. Namiki the Senior Marine Superintendent damage Prevention Team of ‘K’ Line said that Magamruhunupura Port has been vastly developed since its inauguration and he is happy that on arrival berths for all the vessels given by MRMRP considered as an advantage to meet their fixed schedules on timely manner.

He further stated that having two main berths created the vessels to have a faster operation which is the need of the present shipping trade. Pointing out on the stevedore Operations at MRMRP, Namiki further stated that the young stevedores would be able to speed up the operations but inform that annual training for the stevedores should be arranged in order to grasp their best productivity. He further added that the Bunkering tanks would help the entire vessels fleet to replenish bunkers at MRMRP as it is now in function if rates are competitive enough compared with Singapore. Master of the Vessel M/V ‘Caribbean Highway’ Capt. Richard J. Amorado said that he is amazed to see the development of the MRMRP compared to his last visit to MRMRP during 2013 and he confirmed that the MRMRP would be threat to the other hubs in the region the way MRMRP is rising. ABC Shipping Chairman John Shiran Dissanayke the agents for ‘K’ Line in Sri Lanka stated that ‘K’ Line have Invested in two Additional Next Generation Car Carriers on top of its recent identical 8-vessel shipbuilding contracts with delivery from 2015 to 2016. He further stated that the new next generation 7,500 RT car carrier vessels would be delivered in 2017 from Shin Kurushima Dockyard Co. Ltd. Tressel Silva, General Manager Operations and Logistics of ABC Shipping Ltd confirmed that these two new additional ships would be line-up for new next generation car carrier vessels with better stability and increased fuel efficiency which would be expand to a total of ten. He further stated that ‘K’ Line is committed to continue to deliver value added efficiency as well as the capability of handling an even wider variety of cargo mix to assure our services successfully meets the needs of our valued customers in order to be best suited for not only passenger cars but also other RORO cargoes.
