‘Redefining Cornerstones of Logistics & Transport’ will be the theme of the 2014 international conference hosted by The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Sri Lanka. The annual event is organised by CILT Sri Lanka with the purpose of disseminating and showcasing latest trends and developments in the global arena in logistics and transportation sectors.
This year’s conference will feature a number of reputed international speakers in the fields of logistics and transport.
The keynote address on ‘Strategic Town Developments to Facilitate Efficiency in Logistics & Transport’ will be delivered by the Chief Guest Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Dr. Dorothy Chan, the Chairperson CILT International and former Transport Commissioner of Hong Kong will present a case study on how modern transport developments help manage urban congestion Hong Kong.
‘Emerging trends in the shipping industry’ is the topic of the presentation by Franck Dedenis, the Managing Director of the Maersk Line India Cluster.
Tommy Lui, Executive Director of Li & Fung Logistics will complete the international line up with a talk on ‘Empowering business strategy through logistics solutions’.
The conference organisers strongly believe that the selected topics complement the vision of the Government of Sri Lanka to develop the country as a ‘Logistics Hub’. The discussion on the Hong Kong experience of modern transport development in particular is expected to provide valuable inputs for our development planners since the lessons would be directly relevant and applicable.
The CILT Sri Lanka international conference is scheduled to be held on 4 November 2014 at the Kingsbury Hotel in Colombo.
Apart from the foreign delegates, CILT Sri Lanka is expecting over 400 participants representing organisations from logistics and transport industry, industry leaders, government officials, members of the academic community and students, representing the Young Professionals Forum.
Participants view the CILT Sri Lanka’s annual international conference to be an excellent networking opportunity for meeting with industry leaders and sharing knowledge and experience with other organisations in the logistics and transport industry. This year’s conference will be no different.

The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport is a worldwide organisation with an established International pedigree. With over 33,000 members working in over 100 countries, the CILT spans the globe in 32 countries at present. It is an organisation that offers significant benefits to all its members as well as a complete suite of educational courses internationally. Established in 1919 and receiving its Royal Charter in 1926, the Institute has an exciting history behind it, but is always adapting to stay consistent with current logistics and transport issues.
The Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport in Sri Lanka (CILT Sri Lanka) was established in 1985 and incorporated by the parliamentary act no 08 of 2000. Presently it has over 1200 members who are highly qualified in the Transport and Logistics fields. The principal objective of the institute is ‘To promote and encourage the art and science of logistics and transport’ which is achieved through both its membership and its educational qualifications. Membership provides a professional identity to those in the logistics and transport sector as well as international recognition.
