Container vessel Mv Buxcliff under ISE service of MSC Geneva, calling Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) as a weekly caller, recently marked a historical move count of 4,954 (7,650 TEUs) at the Jaya Container Terminal (JCT). This is the highest number of moves handled by an individual vessel at JCT.
MSC is using the Port of Colombo as one of their prime transhipment hub ports in the region and such higher volume planned at SLPA is due to present facilities enhanced at the JCT and efficiency in vessel planning and improved productivity.
Expressing confidence of the improved efficiency at SLPA, General Manager (Operations and Logistics) of MSC Lanka (Private) Limited Shamal Perera stated that newly commissioned equipments at JCT had made Port of Colombo the most competitive hub port in the region.
“The port can now even compete with the most recognised international ports. MSC principals in Geneva has praised and expressed their appreciation to SLPA and JCT management for this achievement,” he said.
