New Mercmarine Group Headquarters a haven for maritime excellence

The Mercmarine Group’s new headquarters at No. 108 Aluthmawatha Road, Colombo 15 was opened on the 17th of March and will epitomise the Group’s commitment to becoming a global player in the shipping industry by enshrining its core values of passion, respect, integrity, discipline and empowerment.
Fondly known as the “Bohnen House”, the distinctively designed structure was the Group’s first property in Sri Lanka, dating back to 1990, and has now been totally refurbished to provide world-class levels of service, benefitting both client and crew.
As the country’s leading maritime group, Mercmarine will continue to offer tailor-made services in five core operational areas: ship owning; ship management; crew management; maritime training; and agency services.
Backed by German shipping expertise and possessing the largest Sri Lankan modern fleet, the Mercmarine Group’s vessels operate all over the globe, creating new routes of opportunity for Sri Lankan seafarers. The German parent company was founded in 1917 while the Sri Lankan operation dates back to 1981. Each of the Group’s ships is registered in Sri Lanka and employs a totally Sri Lankan crew. With certification from Germanischer Lloyd, the Group prides itself on providing vessels of the highest quality and maintenance standards.
The Mercmarine Group also provides top notch Sri Lankan seafarers to the international shipping industry, creating amazing career opportunities for local youth. With quality Sri Lankan crews in high demand all over the world, the Mercmarine Group has also established the Mercantile Seamen Training Institute (Mercmarine Training) in order to train local youth in the necessary skill sets, including in Officer and Ratings grades, as well as Port Manpower. The Group has obtained the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System Certification, a testament to the rigorous processes set in place to ensure excellence. The Group’s Institute has also won the Lloyd’s List Salute to Maritime Excellence Award for Training Commitment, as well as the prestigious Sea trade – Colombo Award for Best Training Facility- 2012 and 2013, further reflection of the quality of its graduates.
