Pacific International Lines (PIL), UK owned container carrier Kota Hakim (Dwt 18,830) called in for her special survey repairs during the latter part of June 2014. The repairs were completed, successfully meeting the owner’s/manager’s requirements.
Colombo was the best option for the owners/managers given the strategic location placing the vessel on the trading route; the vessel discharged her containers in Colombo and shifted to yard berth and shifted into drydocks for her repairs.
During this drydocking call the work package covered repairs in all sectors; blasting painting, steel renewals, piping repairs, hatch cover resting pads and other routine drydocking related repairs.
The owner’s interests were looked after by Fleet Manager Mohamed Hoque. The yard team was headed by Ship Manager Priyanka Cooray – who was well supported by all production departments to re-deliver the vessel ahead of schedule.
The owners were happy with the excellent facilities at their disposal coupled with the quality workmanship. The professional approach to meet the owner’s requirements was highly appreciated.
The container carrier was accommodated in the 125,000 DWT drydock for her repair requirements and sailed out direct from the drydocks. The repairs were carried out meeting the Class NKK classification society requirements. Eastern Maritime Ltd (Colombo) Ltd handled the local husbanding work smoothly.
Emergence of Colombo as hub for container traffic, places Colombo Dockyard as a serious candidate for many container carriers touching Colombo, for her repair requirements (drydocking /afloat).
At the time the Colombo Dockyard PLC is nearing its 40th Anniversary (on 1 August), it has created a significant impression amongst the global shipping fraternity as a serious repair facility providing reliable repair services. PIL, Singapore and UK offices have been patronising Colombo Dockyard over the past few years, in return owners/managers have been served with fast turn-around time, quality workmanship and competitive pricing coupled with minimal diversion from vessel’s trading routes. Recent vessels that have called Colombo Dockyard for their repair requirements from PIL are MV. Kota Halus, MV. Kota Handal, MV. Kota Ariff, MV. Kota Hakim and Kota Anggun (currently in drydock).
