“Priority will be extended to the ‘Piya Puthu Foundation’ in recruiting employees to Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) in future,” stated Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Arjuna Ranatunga.
The Minister made the statement attending the recent productivity meeting of the Jaya Container Terminal (JCT) of SLPA. It was the first-ever occasion where a cabinet minister participated the meeting during the history of 20 years of the institution.
In consideration of the discussions and proposals at the meeting by the employees, the Minister stated that there would be no more space for the recruitment of employees on political grounds at the institution. He added that steps would be taken to re-interview all who have received such appointments during recent times to formalise the resource management of SLPA.
Ranatunga stated that port employees would not be directed towards political activities anymore and even the requests of seniors to do so would be kindly rejected to act rightly and accurately. The Minister also stated that he was engaged in politics not for party politics but for the requirement of the country.
The Minister instructed the officials present at the meeting to bring effective solutions to the matters pertaining to residential issues, welfare and human resource management of the employees.
