Reuters : Singapore port operator PSA International said on Friday it will manage a container terminal in Cuba that is currently under construction, confirming an earlier Reuters report.
“PSA has signed a contract with Terminal de Contenedores de Marial S.A. to manage a new container terminal to be constructed at Mariel Bay,” a spokesman said. He declined to provide further details.
Reuters reported earlier this week that PSA will actively participate in planning the terminal, which is scheduled to open by 2014 when larger vessels begin traversing the Panama Canal that is now being expanded.
The terminal is part of a larger scheme to develop Mariel Bay, 28 miles (45 km) west of Havana, into the Caribbean country’s most important cargo hub and centre of light manufacture.
PSA, fully owned by Singapore state investor Temasek Holdings , is involved in the management of over 20 projects around the world.
