Safmarine Longa first Sri Lankan flagged ship to obtain MLC2006 certification

MV “Safmarine Longa” was recently certified as meeting the requirements of MLC2006 at the port of Antwerp, Belgium.
She is the first of a fleet of seven Sri Lankan flagged ships to be certified by Germanischer Lloyd under the voluntary certification scheme provided by the Sri Lankan Flag Administration.
MV “Safmarine Longa” built in 2010, is owned by the Mercmarine Group of companies and has a full Sri Lankan complement. She is on Charter to Safmarine, a company in the AP Moller-Maersk group and trades on the EURWAF service from Europe to West Africa.
Commenting on the event Capt. Rohan Codipilly, group COO said “we are very pleased to have had the first vessel certified so soon after the implementation of MLC 2006 and thankful to the Director General of Merchant Shipping for having initiated the voluntary certification scheme.”
