Dr. Razeen Sally

When discussing Asia’s economic success, economists always look at Singapore as a role model to develop nations and create wealth. A strong set of policies, with discipline and direction has taken the island nation known as a city state to great heights as it completes 50 years of independence in 2015.

Post conflict Sri Lanka too is thriving to develop as a regional hub in many aspects. The infamous middle-income trap is discussed at many intellectual forums as the country needs strategy to avoid this situation. The economic models and ideologies that Sri Lanka should be moving towards in the next decade is being debated, it will be a challenge to policy makers to make the country in the correct direction.

Dr. Sally will discuss possible lessons that Sri Lanka can take from Singapore in developing the country with a fresh set of reforms that would possibly help the country navigate whilst facing a weak global economy at the same time which is also highly competitive.

Razeen Sally is a Director of European Centre for International Political Economy (ECIPE), which he co-founded in 2006. He is an Associate Professor at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore from January 2012.
