SLPA strengthens its comprehensive Medical Insurance Scheme for employees

The employees of Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) and their family members continue to be the proud beneficiaries of the comprehensive Medical Insurance Scheme that commenced last year.

The agreement in this regard was renewed on 29 August 2012 between the SLPA and Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation at the Sri Lanka Ports Authority. SLPA Chairman Dr. Priyath B. Wickrama signed the agreement on behalf of SLPA while Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation Managing Director Mohan De Alwis signed on behalf of SLIC. The scheme will be effective from 1 September 2012 until 31 August 2013.

Accordingly, the annual premium for each permanent employee under the health medical insurance policy for the employees will be paid by the SLPA and no charge will be levied from an employee for obtaining the membership of this medical scheme.

In addition, if an employee wishes to introduce his or her spouse or children to this scheme, the SLPA will make arrangements to pay the total premium on the basis that the employee agrees to deduct the premium from his or her salary.

This policy shelters the employees from a number of key areas that cover hospital charges, medical check-ups, child births, and accidents, as well as a number of other medical requirements.

The implementation of this Medical Insurance Scheme at SLPA is expected to further strengthen the quality of life and welfare of employees and the human resource development procedures currently implemented at the institution as a major area of focus.

The SLPA considers a well-looked-after workforce is a major underpinning for organisational growth and development. This Medical Insurance Scheme aims at achieving the above proposition.
