Sri Lanka to enter bilateral air service agreement with Serbia to utilise Mattala Airport

Sri Lanka will enter into a bilateral air service agreement with Serbia in a bid to develop the air service and tourism in the island, especially utilising the Mattala International Airport.a

The Government says the air service relations with Siberia would be helpful in the development of air service and tourism in Sri Lanka and the Mattala International Airport can be fruitfully utilised by allowing Serbian aircrafts to access and fly to other countries via the idling airport.

Serbia, which is an upper middle income country, makes a vast contribution to its economy through tourism and has entered into multilateral air agreements with 13 countries in the European Union. A proposal by Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva to sign and enforce the air service agreement with Serbia has received cabinet approval, Cabinet spokesperson Minister Rajitha Senaratne said.

The agreement has already been signed in the official level by an accredited representative of Sri Lanka.
