With the Sri Lankan Government’s intention of making Sri Lanka a maritime hub in the region and the growth in the port sector of the country, the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) has succeeded in attracting yet another shipping line to Sri Lanka, calling at the Magam Ruhunupura Mahinda  Rajapaksa Port (MRMRP) at Hambantota. The shipping line, Toyofuji Shipping Co. Ltd. (TFSC), incorporated in Japan, operates regular services to and from Japan, China, East Asia, South East Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania. Toyofuji Shipping’s PCC carrier Topaz Ace made her maiden call at MRMRP recently this year  and with the high productivity of port operations they managed to turnaround the vessel in a very short period of time, ensuring a safe cargo operation and quick dispatch of the vessel. Topaz Ace, with a LOA of 179.90m, discharged 211 vehicles loaded from Japan and China. There was a plaque exchanging ceremony celebrating this maiden call onboard the vessel which was attended by SLPA Director Operations Upali De Zoysa, SLPA Chief Operations Manager C/C Jayantha Perera, Capt. P. Samiddhi Deas (SLPA), SLPA Project Manager M.M.M.C. Bandara and officials from the shipping line and local agents, Delmege Forsyth & Co. (Shipping) Ltd. Its RORO/PCC vessels have opportunity to engage in its business both in direct shipments to Sri Lanka and transhipment to neighbouring destinations which have shown growth in used car imports (in the South Asian region) from Japan. With its unique combination of traditional logistics and modern automation, it has achieved great results for its organization and contributed to society since its establishment. Toyofuji Shipping will maintain commitment to its company policy of ‘putting customer first and providing innovative distribution services that offer both safety and value, while contributing to the economy and to society’.
