Wallem Lanka performs first OPL operation at H’tota anchorage

Wallem Lanka Ltd., under agency operations of Wallem Shipmanagement, managed vessel Mv Genco Carrier, a fully-loaded bulk carrier at Hambantota anchorage on 4 February while the vessel called for bunkering. Wallem was established in 1903 and the business units now comprise ship management and technical services, ship agency, commercial services, innovative solutions, logistic and ship brokering. Wallem Lanka under the port agency unit has been performing services in Colombo, Norochcholai (Puttalam), Galle, Hambantota and Trincomalee. Sri Lanka, being located in the main shipping routes, has been a major supply point for all ship owners, charterers and ship managers. Wallem Lanka Managing Director Capt. Ajantha Abeysinghe says that Sri Lanka Port Authority, Sri Lanka Customs, Sri Lanka Immigration and the Sri Lanka Navy provide excellent operational support and facilitate services with minimum delay in connecting at Out-Of-Port Limit (OPL). OPL services play a major role in managing and running ships simply by saving time, cost and also by providing medical emergency evacuations for ship crew on-board. Wallem Lanka’s involvement in agency and logistic operations opens the door for Wallem Shipmanagement Ltd. Hong Kong, which has 400 plus managed ships, to use Sri Lankan ports more frequently and regularly, thereby popularising the ports of Sri Lanka.
