New gazette regulations for international transportation
The Shippers’ Academy Colombo (SAC) and the Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF) has organised a training workshop to educate the trade and the service providers on the new regulations and guidelines provided by the Government under the gazette number 1842/16 of 27 December 2014. The new rules came into effect on 6 January 2014, where service providers and service users in international transportation have been given guidelines on how shipping charges and surcharges could be collected.
Considering the modern global trading environment, along with technological changes, the Government has taken action to implement the budget 2014 Presidential proposals to eliminate monopolistic and anticompetitive practices that were being used by some service providers in international transportation.
A presentation will be made by Shippers’ Academy Colombo CEO Rohan Masakorala, on THC and surcharges covering the technical aspects as well as explaining the issue in detail. A panel of industry personnel will be discussing and educating the trade on each aspect of the gazette which will be followed by a question and answer session.
The organisers invite all stake holders in international trade, including exporters, importers, international transport service providers, logistics providers, bankers, insurance companies and other professional bodies to attend the workshop. The organisers have also invited Director General Merchant Shipping to the panel.
The event will be held on the 24 January 2104, from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at The Kingsbury. Please contact the Shippers’ Academy Colombo for registration and tickets.
