Badulla District under President Rajapakse has seen unprecedented development. Despite that why couldn’t the UPFA even get 50%? Last PC election the UPFA got 75 %. At that stage people said the UNP dead. Things change when people get disgusted when action is not taken to address glaring issues. I am giving 10 reasons why the UPFA is losing ground? 1 Corruption when highlighted no action is taken and the deterioration of law and order 2 The EPF has been vandalized by buying junk stocks. The loss in 2011 was over 11 billion. Nothing was done 3 People not competent and credible are appointed to positions of power. 4 The Judicial system is getting politicized systematically 5 Interference in Private sector Banks and Friends and relatives of the governor are made Chairman of private sector banks despite opposition 6 Arrogance of certain people in the government and no tolerance for another view 7 The rising cost of living and that is covered up with statistics by the Central Bank and the treasury 8 The deterioration of foreign relations with the West 9 Going overboard building infrastructure without focussing on issues like poverty and education 10 The notion of winning the war can carry on and not treating the minorities properly I believe the President is being taken for a good ride by a few people, unless he addresses these issues he will find that he will lose his popularity especially in cities where majority of the people reside and that will effect a future presidential election he hopes to contest.
