Thirteen Sri Lankan inventions which have been awarded under School category at ‘Sahasak Nimavum – 2017’ National Exhibition for Inventions and Innovations organised by Sri Lanka Inventors Commission participated at the Kaohsiung International Invention and Design EXPO (KIDE) – 2017 held in Taiwan from 8 to 10 December under the assistance and full sponsorship of the Sri Lanka Inventors Commission including registration fee, air fare, accommodation cost and other relevant expenses. The EXPO was organised by World Invention Intellectual Property Association (WIIPA) one of the great invention association in the world. All inventions of Sri Lankan young inventors secured medals such as 5 Gold medals, 6 Silver medals and 2 Bronze medals among 399 inventions represented from 26 countries.
Dr. Mahesh Edirisinghe, Commissioner of the Sri Lanka Inventors Commission was appointed as a member of Jury in the aforesaid event by WIIPA and it was the third time that he served as a member of Jury in an international judging panel representing Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan team headed by Dr. Mahesh Edirisinghe and Cherika Seneviwickrama, Program Officer of the Commission also participated as the Team Representative.
Sri Lankan young inventors also have been recognised by three special awards from Croatia, Indonesia and Macau. Young inventors J.M. Lahiru Kavinda and J.M. Ayesha Devindi were recognised from Best International Young Inventor Award of ‘KIDE – 2017’ for their invention ‘Bio Char and Plastic Mixture Material’.
During the year 2017, Sri Lanka inventors have obtained 16 Gold medals, 16 Silver medals, 2 Bronze medals, 12 Special awards, 1 FIRI Award and 3 Best Inventor Awards by international invention competitions throughout the opportunities given by Sri Lanka Inventors Commission.
It is important to mention thankfully all remarkable supports and blessings given by Susil Premajayantha, Minister of Science, Technology and Research providing necessary directions, guidance and financial supports to attain these massive achievements of Sri Lankan inventors who drive towards the Sri Lankan Economy to innovative culture along with the Commission.
The internationally recognised Sri Lankan delegation arrived to the motherland at 12:10 a.m. on 14 December from flight number TG307 and the delegation was welcomed by officials of the Sri Lanka Inventors Commission and well-wishers of young inventors at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayaka.
