67th Independence Day celebrations in Warsaw, Poland

On 4 February, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Warsaw-Poland, marked the 67th Anniversary of the Independence of Sri Lanka at a formal event attended by Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim communities residing in Poland, representing the multiethnic society in Sri Lanka.
The program began with singing the National Anthem. The traditional oil lamp was lit by Ambassador D.S. de Silva and a few other Sri Lankans, representing all communities. Thereafter a two minute silence was observed, in commemorating those who have sacrificed their lives in order to gain independence and freedom for our motherland.
The National Day message of President Maithripala Sirisena was read by the Ambassador along with the Sinhala and Tamil versions. The National Day Message of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was read by Attache of the Mission J.M.L.P. Bandara and the National Day Message issued by Minister of Foreign Affairs Mangala Samaraweera was read by Consular Officer B.S. Amarakoon.
Addressing the gathering, the Ambassador reiterated the importance of preserving the unity and freedom that all Sri Lankans now enjoy and made a special note of thanks to the participants for their good-will, support and patronage with the Embassy at all occasions.
The event was concluded with a dinner arranged by the Embassy.
