ACBC organises 13th Bauddhaloka Vesak Zone

The All Ceylon Buddhist Congress has organised its 13th Bauddhaloka Vesak Zone to mark the forthcoming Vesak ceremony which falls on 14 and 15 May, ACBC President Jagath Sumathipala said. A sila and meditation program will be held at the ACBC premises on 14 May. The sacred relics from the ancient Gedige Raja Maha Viharaya in Kandy will be on display during the four days to the public, he said. As on previous years, the area from Tunmulla Junction in Bambalapitiya to the Borella Roundabout at the Kanatte junction on Bauddhaloka Mawatha will be declared a Vesak Zone. Among the various creative items included in the program that runs during these four days, an exhibition of creative Vesak lanterns, singing of Bhakthi Gee and Udana Gee, puppet shows too will be an added attraction, while an exhibition of paintings by school children would add to the Vesak mood. A Buddhabiwandana cultural program will be held in front of the BMICH on the final day, 17 May. A Buddhist creative art exhibition of Dhamma by school children, organised by the All-Ceylon Buddhist Congress will be held at the BMICH, during the four days, he said. A giant Vesak pandal which would display the biography of Rev Anagarika Dharmapala could be seen at the ACBC premises. Dansalas for serving food and drinks will be opened daily for viewers, he said. All creative items presented at the festival will receive special awards. While all Vesak lanterns exhibited would be awarded, the best creative works will receive special awards. An eyes and tissues donation program too will be held. One of the main Vesak celebrations in Colombo will be held at the Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7 under the patronage of the All-Ceylon Buddhist Congress. The celebrations will begin on Vesak Day, with the performance of religious rites and continue with a series of sermons and discussions on Dhamma and meditation programs.
