Bringing good luck and good wishes from global accounting professionals, International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) President Warren Allen while congratulating the new President sent a key message to the audience members addressing the corporates and the regulators on the importance of accountants in the system. Addressing the corporate representatives in the audience, Allen said: “My message to you is accountants are good for business. Their skills and dissemination of timely and accurate financial information supports good and sensible business decisions.” Acknowledging the regulatory community, he added: “Charted accountants always act in the public interest. We are always looking and subscribing for continuous improvement.” To the audience in general, the message was clear: IFAC will not be a stranger to Sri Lanka and the national accounting body. “Your new President plays an important role as a member of IFAC Professional Accountancy Organisation (PAO) Development committee which focuses specifically on identifying solutions to challenges facing the development of strong sustainable professional accountancy organisations around the world. IFAC looks to continued collaborations from CA Sri Lanka.” Allen noted that CA Sri Lanka has remained a valued member of IFAC and is one of the largest professional organisations within it. “I am very confident that the accountancy profession both here and beyond will benefit from the skills of Arjuna.” There is a world shortage of accountants, he said adding that continuous and advance efforts in this regard is essential to meet the expectations of the public placed on the profession.
