The 2558th Buddha Jayanthi (Vesak) was celebrated at the Embassy premises in Tel Aviv Israel on Vesak day with the participation of the Embassy staff and the Sri Lankan community. Ven. Denagama Dhammarama conducted meditation followed by a lecture on the significance of Vesak and the changes brought about in India and the entire world as a result of propagation of the enlightened Buddhist way of life and philosophy which is followed worldwide.
Meditation and Bana was conducted in Hebrew participated by intellectuals and University Dons at Wippassana Centre in Tele Aviv and Vesak calibrations in Galellee with the participation of the Embassy staff with lectures conducted by Sri Lankan and Thai Monks organised jointly by the Vipassana centre in Tiberia and Sri Lankan Embassy in Israel.
Sarath Wijesinghe and the Embassy staff participated in all the events and the Embassy premises were decorated with ‘Vesak Pahan’ with all traditional Buddhist rituals.
Sri Lankan Embassy conducts ‘Bana’ on every ‘Poya’ (every month) at the Embassy premises with Banasermon by the resident Monk and/or others invited from Sri Lanka and United Kingdom.
It is understood over 15,000 persons follow the Buddhist way of life in Israel and the number is growing fast. Religious harmony is practiced by the Embassy by promoting religious harmony and the customs and religious rituals and functions of Buddhism, Christianity and Judaism.
