Commercial Bank extends support to Commonwealth Business Forum

The Commercial Bank of Ceylon, Sri Lanka’s largest private bank and the most internationally-lauded local financial institution, has announced its support for the Commonwealth Business Forum (CBF) in Colombo. President Mahinda Rajapaksa will deliver the keynote address and will be one of many heads of state/government that will speak at the Commonwealth Business Forum which is expected to be attended by about 1,200 delegates. More than 30 international business leaders are also scheduled to speak at the forum, themed ‘Partnering for Wealth Creation and Social Development’. A privilege “The Commonwealth Business Forum is one of the largest gatherings of heads of state, lawmakers and top business leaders focused on trade, investment and business priorities,” Commercial Bank’s Chief Operating Officer Jegan Durairatnam said. “The Commercial Bank considers it a privilege to support such an event. We hope the forum will generate many new ideas on how financial institutions, big business and legislators can work together to improve wealth creation.” Commercial Bank will also have its own stall at this prestigious forum to provide information on its activities and the role it plays in enhancing access and economic resilience through its support to business in Sri Lanka. The delegates will get the chance to interact with the bank officials and learn in detail about the Sri Lankan financial landscape and the role played by the bank as the largest private bank in the country. Commonwealth Business Forum The Commonwealth Business Forum takes place at the Cinnamon Grand hotel from 12-14 November 2013 in conjunction with the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). The forum is co-organised by the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC) and the Government of Sri Lanka and forms a part of the overall CHOGM program.  It will provide a valuable opportunity for high level dialogue on trade and investment between business and government leaders from the Commonwealth and beyond. The CBF is a major global business event, coming at a critical time as the developed world continues its efforts to secure recovery from recession, tackle the challenges of maintaining open markets, and when emerging markets are enjoying a greater prominence on the world stage than ever before. The forum will be a key event in developing stronger partnerships between governments and business to ensure that the Commonwealth plays its part in promoting sustainable growth to the benefit of the whole of global society. The largest private bank in Sri Lanka and the only Sri Lankan bank to be listed three years consecutively in the world’s Top 1,000 Banks, Commercial Bank operates a network of 232 branches and service points and a network of 576 ATMs in Sri Lanka. The bank also operates 18 outlets in Bangladesh. The bank has won multiple awards as the country’s best bank over several years.
